This movie should have been called...
I think this movie should have been called "Diamond's Are A Girl's Best Friend"
because diamonds are in the film alot and of course, the signature song.

i like the title as is better. it's just classic. i can't imagine it as anything else.

I see where you thought of it, but I prefer the original. The main theme is of women outsmarting the men who underestimate them, so 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' seems perfect (blondes of course being stereotyped as dumb, Lorelei proving that she is anything but in attaining her goals).

Well, the movie is based on the book by Anita Loos *Gentlemen Prefer Blondes*, thus the title.
shareThe title is as iconic as the signature song, having been taken (as mentioned above) from the book published in the 20s. That was years before Jule Styne wrote the song.
(The book's sequel, also published in the 20s, is titled But Gentlemen Marry Brunettes so the darker haired ladies ultimately get their do - so to speak. ; -)

Sonomagirl, and everyone else, this film was based on the Broadway musical play that was based on the play that was based on Anita Loos' book.
Bored now.
I think it's overlong and marginalises audiences to be honest. How many men would go to a movie with that title? Where as the other is playing right to them. Really I think the song name as film title only seems like a good idea because it's so iconic now but back then i think the book title likely carried better cachet.
shareYou took the words right out of my mouth.
shareI'm surprised that this book isn't more popular. Anita Loos was brilliantly witty and knew how to craft phrases that only Lorelei Lee would say with a perfect mix of mercenary dumb-blonde wisdom (like the title).
I haven't read it in 30 years but now I think I will.
a load of crap
sharemany movies have IMHO bad titles, your idea is better than the original title, since the movie is all from the point of view of the girls--the gentlemen prefer blondes title doesnt make much sense.
shareI like the original title better
shareIt should be called “How to Get Diamonds by Whoring.”
