After spending the whole movie making it clear that LORELEI is a goldigger, they try to justify it? And with a very silly logic, by the way. I mean, the looks is the first thing you notice in a person and the personality is more important. But you can't compare those things to caring about money.
What's stupid is that the movie ends with a part of DIAMONDS ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND, a song that reflects how shallow the character is.
The idea is that all women are looking for a man who can provide. It's just that some were more blatant than others, or that was their only criteria for finding a mate.
Part of the moral of the story is that if you can love someone, regardless of why, then you have a good marriage in the making. If a busty blonde likes a rich ugly looking dude for his money, and the dude is okay with that, then that's a "match made in heaven" so to speak, because each side has their obligations, now what's expected of the other, and like eachother for it, or rather, in spite of it.
Yes, a lot of men (specially old and rich) don't care whether their wife is a golddigger as long they get all the sex they want. But in this movie, the guys Marilyn's character was after didn't know.
I'd disagree. I think he knew all about it, and was disappointed that Marilyn was being coy and evasive from him, and that he had to prove he wanted her in the end by showing up at the cabaret where Marilyn and Jane were performing.
Why is it OK for a guy to marry someone for their looks, but not OK for a woman to marry someone for their money? They are both superficial things, at least she is being practical in knowing her looks are going to fade and then men won't want her. Why just judge the woman for being superficial and then let the guy off the hook?
Within the mores of the Fifties it was what women were allowed and programmed to do, IMDB_Vits. A study of sociology would help you understand it better. The prize for a woman at the time was to marry well. The book on which this film was based was written in the Twenties.
No woman was successful if she had a career since she was marginalised in every job. 'Women are dumb, don't you know?'
Where were you during the recent election during the demonisation of Secretary Clinton? If you're an American, for whom did you vote?
