Jan Harlan, brother-in-law of the great director and executive producer of all of Stanley Kubrick's films from Barry Lyndon to Eyes Wide Shut, produced this one-of-a-kind documentary on Kubrick's career. Having access that no other filmmaker would have into the life of the reclusive director, Harlan interviews relatives and colleagues, using clips from his films along with old home movies and pictures. Tom Cruise narrates. Part of the 2006 Traverse City Film Festival's Tribute to Stanley Kubrick and the Salute to Tom Cruise. Rated R

O Lucky Malcolm World Premiere screening

Tuesday, August 1st 10:00 pm at the Old Town Playhouse

Traverse City will host the world premiere of Jan Harlan's intimate portrait of the acclaimed actor Malcolm McDowell. Getting his start with the famed British director Lindsay Anderson, McDowell went on to claim the role of a lifetime as the sociopath Alex in A Clockwork Orange. With films like If... and O Lucky Man, McDowell established himself as the leader of the pack in a new wave of British cinema. This documentary will be released later this year by Warner Brothers, and both Harlan and McDowell will appear on stage at this screening. Anyone interested in the process of the artist at work should not miss this exciting, provocative evening event. Rated R
Panels
Free panels with filmmakers, chaired by festival founder and president Michael Moore, will be held every morning at 10 a.m., Tuesday-Sunday August 1-6. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
