It is worth seeing for studies

If someone is a filmmaker and has seen all of Kubrick's films then this film is very important to see. The reason is because it is a very clear illustration of the amount that Kubrick learned as a filmmaker between "Fear and Desire" and "Killer's Kiss." As a filmmaker Kubrick obviously learned a lot and it is especially clear by watching "Fear and Desire."

I did see it on TCM last night, and while it's a long way from being a good film (let alone a good Kubrick film), keep in mind he had NO feature film experience at the time, with only a couple of short documentary subjects under his belt.

With that in mind it's a remarkable achievement, despite the iffy acting, editing and screenplay (I was a little surprised by the tin ear for dialogue in the script). For a 'student project' by someone with no formal cinematic training, you have to give the kid some credit. This should a required viewing in film school...

...And only four years later he would direct Paths of Glory..!
