Why did he hate it so much?

What did he do to it? I cant imagine a great director like him hating one of his own movies to the point where he tried to get everyone NOT to see it

The ship sinks in Titanic!

Because he didn't want anyone to know he didn't spring up at once a full-blown genius!

Just an fyi..this film that Mr. Kubrick "hated" will be getting screened this week as a result of efforts by the film Society of Lincoln Center and MoMa's film department. Paul Mazursky said that viewers should look at it as a "student" film.

Interesting.

"You know, my name..."

All I'll say is that after I finished watching it, I thought to myself "Yeah, I can understand why he wanted this out of circulation." It just seemed so obviously to be a tentative experiment... an exercise. Not a full blown effort.

I don't know if Kubrick literally "hated" it. I thought he just didn't want people to see it. Sort of like a band not wanting people to hear a rough early demo version of their album.
