It's too bad Ewing's charging $12 to see this one. I think I'll opt for the Maltese Falcon at the Palace (for $2.50) that night...

reply

$12? I really cannot justify that. That is unfortunate as hell, as I do want to see this, but not for 12 bucks.

reply

yeah i cant help it tho i've wanting to see it for a long time.

I love Cinematheque..

reply

if only it weren't for those chairs...

reply

yeah your right...
lol

So how was it?

reply

Not grait

real choppy like. editing was tacky and abstract. ( he problems got board and did a bunch of abstract stuff just to make it more fun for his sake!)

It reminded me of like a twilight zone episode.

lot of unanswered question and far to short.

Not amazing but
but not terrible

I'd give it a D+++

Well you got to see Stanley Kubricks first film in theatre, and even though it was bad, probably as expected, you still get to say you saw his first film. I'd say its probably worth the $12 just to cure the craveing that would probably otherwise go on forever, and just to see the beginnings of what later went on to be one of the great directors.

reply

yeah it wasnt the worst thing ive ever seen!

Sad as it sounds, I would pay 12 bucks to see it, given how rare it is. I paid 11 to see Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains a few months back here in Melbourne. It makes no sense to me that the Kubrick estate still won't allow this to be released on DVD. It's creating a needless mystique that'd be cleared up if the film was more readily available. The only available DVD's are bootleg quality and sold for absurd prices.

I'd pay $12 to see 2001 at the Cinematheque.

BTW did they have a speaker before/after the screening?

reply

LOL.. You "GET" to say you saw Kubrick's first film in theater?!? WOW I would be blown off my chair or swept completely off my feet and knocked on my as$ if one of my friends revealed to me this exquisite bit of bragging information. It's like suddenly finding out that your friend is........ A complete idiot. Such a fool who willfully pays $12 --the amount not as significant as the time wasted-- on a film they know is going to be terrible going into.

Even for wap-all-day fapping Kubrick fanboys spooging in uncontrollable spasms all over their underwear at the whisper of his name admit this is pure garbage. I think even Kubrick himself said that it was not even worthy of release... Anywhere, ever. A total embarrassment better left unseen.

I'm sorry I truly am more often a mellow fellow

This movie is terrible! why spend $12 ?? even if you're a die hard fan, just buy the bootleg on ebay for 10 bucks. that way you can burn it afterwards and the world will have one less copy of this abomination. Even kubrick tried to rid this world of it !!
