May not have seen Gobi sinced the '70s...

Has it ever run on Turner Classics? How do those that have seen Gobi rate it star wise?

This was pretty awful. The cinematography was perhaps the only remote positive of the film. The cast --which had two members of "Stalag 17" -- was ok but their dialogue was just horrible. It was hard to take.

Several of the plotlines were idiotic including the "cannon" scene in their getaway. I like Richard Widmark which is mostly why I gave this film a chance but it quickly becomes apparent that this annoying film --in spite of its star and director-- is one of the worst WW2 pictures I've ever seen. The 1st page review giving it a one star got it right.

I saw three dusters...inside the dusters were three men, inside the men were three bullets.

Would that be the review that criticized the filmmakers for not having visited Mongolia to see how the natives live? Apparently, the reviewer is not aware that Inner Mongolia is part of China, which in 1953 would have been off-limits to American movie producers, as would Outer Mongolia - the country of Mongolia itself - which was a satellite of the Soviet Union at the time.

Hard to take someone seriously with a knowledge gap that wide and deep.

I've never seen it listed for TCM but might have missed it. Fox Movie Channel is showing it right now, with a repeat tomorrow morning. The on-screen guide gives it THREE stars!

I haven't seen this film since the very early Sixties. We had a b&w TV (of course), so I was startled to see that it is in color.

I want to track down FMC's guide because I want to watch all of it since I got in about a half-hour late today. So far, my childhood fond memories have not been betrayed.

I DVR'ed it and attempted to watch it on the strength of that 3 star rating, but it was SO bad. I thought for a second that I was watching a Connie Francis movie set in Mongolia - the script and acting was so cheesy, and the sets were cheap, cheap, cheap. No there there, IMO. Deleted after 30 minutes, and don't regret it.
