The Climax (SPOILER)

This post contains spoilers. Don't read it if you haven't seen the movie yet and intend to see it.

At the end, when the doctor is fighting the husband, Ruth stands by silently watching their struggle. Within about three seconds of the husband falling overboard and screaming, a half dozen crew members run to the scene. Even if Ruth was unable to physically aid the doctor during the fight, she could have shouted for help and these same crewmen would have been there quickly. Perhaps she was unaware that they were hanging about so close by, but it would have occurred to her that someone, somewhere would have heard her and come running. The only thing I can conclude is that she was in the grip of some sort of hysterical speechlessness that temporarily prevented her from uttering a sound.

I did like the movie, though, and I wonder if the crew was able to fish the husband out of the water and get him back on board alive. Boy, would he be embarrassed after that girlie scream he let out when he fell off the boat. But I suppose he was lost, since someone at the end mentioned only that the stewardess was going to be prosecuted.

A good plot hole about the crew. And her not screaming is believable to me. I always wonder why people don't try and help, a system of the fear I suppose. But her husband did try to kill her, you would think she would help the doctor just out of anger.

Agreed. I thought it was very realistic, she was in shock.

You might remember, she was sedated and sleepy.
