After having docked, Tallow (Brian Seton) and Watts (Liam Redmond) walk to the house of Tallow's sister (Meg Jenkins) and find a bombed-out shell. Both fearing the wost they then have the grim news confirmed that she had died and been interred a couple of days previously: with no goodbyes, no farewells, nothing. The contrast between the original cheery banter when the two men are welcomed at - I think - the Air Raid Post by three Wardens and the immediately sobering realisation that the two men present were obviously very close to Tallow's sister and are so affected emotionally definitely takes the prize; the silence and the look that passes between the two does indeed speak volumes and provides a very good climax.
Their behaviour and self-sacrifice is nicely contrasted to the behaviour of Morrell's wife and her lover in another scene following closely.
