Rocky SFX

The special photographic effects were pretty good for this sort of fare. Lots of imagination and many elements were employed to create them: model buildings and space craft; jet plumes; backblast off the ground; matte shots; polarized shots; animation. No cheap shots back then for a "Kid Show".

It is little wonder this program did not last long as it must have been quite pricey to produce. The casts were alo quite large.

And, no, I won't neglect to mention the delightful Sally Mansfield.

Not a word about the idiocy of Winky. FX were good and I looked up guys what did them. Some startling other shows Glass worked on. Wonder how they had a decent budget when most back then was literally nothing. Sally Mansfield -- you mean Jayne's grandmother?

Winky is left for another Posting. The "funny" sidekick is a stock item just like the pretty girl assistant and brainy scientist.

That SFX guy must have been very clever or dipped into his own pocket to produce the results on display. I'll have to look into the Jack R. Glass page.
(I was surprised to see his name all over the place but no background information on him)

Yes, theres' something to be said for those Mansfield genes....

Look up the writer of Rocky -- he's still alive at 101 years, but he stopped writing for tv in '59.

That must be the secret of long life -- Get out of Hollywood!

reply

Not necessarily -- Frances Lederer was in Hellholewood for quite a long time and he was a centenarian as well.

I kid. I am the kidder. Bob Hope and his old buddy, old pal, George Burns ran up their odometers, too. I'm sure there are many.
