I wasn't aware of your blog-very interesting. "City" was recently listed as a upcoming DVD or BluRay from Olive Films. No date yet.

I had never heard of this film let alone seen it. Very impressive and every actor is first rate. William Tallman (aka Berger,Perry Mason) is interesting and look for Tom Poston in a small role.

Thanks Michael for your informative review, especially regarding the specific exterior locations. This viewer watched the Olive Blu-ray edition last night. Blu-ray.com gives Olive kudos for its excellent transfer. I have found that for the noir aficionado, the Blu-ray format is really the only way to fully enjoy these films. The lighting and deep shadows are much better enjoyed as opposed to watching a low resolution DVD. My only complaint is that there was no commentary special feature. This picture deserves one.

I am always pleasantly surprised when a noir director gets off the back lot and films on location. These scenes are precious since they allow the viewer to better immerse himself into the world of the characters and from an historical perspective, allows us to see the various cities as our parents did.

My only real complaint is that I only recall Gig Young lighting up on one occasion while no other character in the film smoked. The reality is that his character was under so much stress that he should have been smoking throughout the film.

The story & style are awful and childish. The narration was so inept. The movie was 15 min. too long. The ending chase would not end. Duh x 10
The cops brother - saw the killing & was only hit over the head. That aint gunna stop him squealing.
Thinking the guy was a robot! Lets face it every thing in the movie was ludicrous. His partner, the letter of resignation, chasing a suspect w/out backup.
The guns were never reloaded after Many shots. Republic Pictures were several years late making a semi-doc crime film. The whole safecrack gimmick was found to be useless since Talman was with Arnold's wife.
I wanted to like this movie But could not find anything that made sense. Music was horrible & went on & on. Love story was phony and contradicted itself.
I like Gig Young & William Talman but this movie made poor use of their talents.
Talman could not see the robot cry from 200 ft. away!
