Original Soundtrack

Am I the only one who thinks the best performances ever of these songs are those in the film? As such, I really hope that someone eventually releases the original film soundtrack on CD. There was a soundtrack LP released in 1953 that has long since gone out of print, and it surfaced on CD in the UK a few years back (now also unavailable).

A restored and expanded CALL ME MADAM soundtrack CD would be a good project for the people at Varese-Sarabande, as they have done some truly outstanding work. Their soundtrack CD of THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS, another 20th Century-Fox Ethel Merman vehicle released only a year after MADAM, is fabulous.

Everyone interested should take the time to write to Varese-Sarabande and/or 20th Century-Fox and ask them to bring this gem to CD. Lesser musical soundtracks have appeared on CD for years. It's time to have this one on CD too!

There is a soundtrack CD release on the Hallmark label, available through specialty shops like Footlight Records(on-line at www.footlight.com). A good buy at $10.95, but the sound leaves something to be desired. Nothing's really been done to it- it sounds like a clean copy of the old Decca LP master transferred to disc, but what a disc! Give it a try.

I just bought the soundtrack. It is as justoldbill says but I still am listening to it a lot. Too bad it doesn't have Miss Sally Adams though. Love those telephone girls. +1 on an expanded version.
