Does anyone else love this film?

I think this is a great Sunday afternoon film, anyone agree?

reply

This is definitely one of the best films to watch any day of the week, but particularly at the weekend to just chill out.

Really anything with Doris Day (except Midnight Lace, Caprice, Julie, Love Me or Leave, or Young at Heart).

I especially enjoyed her pairings with Gordon MacRae.

Classic movies to be enjoyed over and over again.

I Love this movie...I pretty much love anything Doris Day is in...I am very surprised that more of her movies are not available on DVD.

Yes, I agree that Doris & Gordon make a great singing and acting team. They should have done more together!!!

I love this movie! I love Doris Day! I love the small town feel, the way Marjorie is a tom-boy in the time period. I love Wesley, I love the corny parents, I love Stella. I just totally agree, a very much Sunday afternoon movie. On Moonlight Bay was good too, but I prefer the sequel.

I love all the Doris Day/Gordon MacRae pairings ... they were sweet together! Their films may not have won any awards, but they sure were entertaining! Love DD's singing ... she was truly one of the greats!

I love it and its "prequel" , which is titled "On Moonlight Bay." These movies are loosely based on the Penrod stories by Booth Tarkington. They are great Sunday afternoon movies, or Friday night movies for that matter! When you want to unwind after a stressful day, watch one or both.

As taylorje mentions, these two films "On Moonlight Bay" & "By The Light Of The Silvery Moon" are loosely based upon Booth Tarkington's "Penrod" stories, which were set in the time when the stable became a garage. They are from the point of view of Wesley Winified (Billy Gray) in the movies, Penrod Schofield in Tarkington's stories, but most of the situations from these film versions appear somewhere in the books.

The first two of the three books are now available for free download at Project Gutenberg in HTML, EPUB, Kindle & Plain Text Formats.

I watch "on Moonlight Bay" and "By the light of the silvery moon" when I want to leave my troubles of this modern world for a couple hours, they never fail to cheer me up, I watch them with my kids to remind them that there was a time (even though this is only a dramatization and not typical of that era either, but still showed;
in my opinion the way America was Good and Safe and made sense) I feel sorry Kids these days don't care or recall the good old days, I hate progress!! ;)
Have yourself a nice movie marathon with the above movies and add the original "Cheaper by the dozen" and "Belles on their toes" for a lovely afternoon of nostalgia.

reply

I absolutely love these 2 movies. I think I'll watch a double feature this Sunday afternoon.

OMB and BTLOTSM are the kind of films the Disney channel used to air when they were all about quality programming. That's how I discovered Oklahoma! and My Fair Lasy, Bob and Bing's road movies, The Parent Trap, Summer Magic, Pollyanna, and The Misadventures of Merlin Jones. Imagine my surprise when there's Judge Holmsby in the opening scene of OMB!

I think we're just gonna have to be secretly in love with each other and leave it at that.
