Turner censorship??

Just watched the beginning of this on TCM. When the kids were saying the Pledge of Allegiance, the line "under God" was ommitted. I don't remember TCM censoring movies. They have always been uncut, or so I thought.

Does anyone know what the deal is on this?

reply

Not censorship. Those words weren't added to the pledge until later I'm the 1950s. This turns up in a lot of older movies.

reply

1954 to be exact just looked it up. So no censorship. Especially since TCM shows films in entirety no matter what.

reply

Why would you think it's censored? There's no evidence of a splice to be seen. As others have commented, "under God" was added after this film was made.

reply

The Pledge is a lie, anyway. "Under God" fit well because it's a lie as well.

If you put me on ignore, then how can I notify you when I win the lottery?

reply

Thanks everybody! I didn't realize that the line "under God" was added later. That's really quite interesting.

reply

"Under god" was added because of political correctness to appease the christians.

I know it's not politically correct to call it "political correctness" when christians are offended, but that doesn't make it any less true.

Janet! Donkeys!

nsavage3-1, the words "UNDER GOD" were added to the pledge of allegiance a few years later, in the mid-50s if I remember correctly.

I found that scene so ironic: African Americans having to pledge allegiance to the flag of the country that enslaved them.
