The end was just messed up (spoilers)

Yes it was good for a moment. Is the pill with the "W" poison? Lyn has 10 mins to admit it is and save herself. The clock is ticking. But when the clock easily goes past 10 mins Lyn is still talking to Cam and finally he leaves. Then he stands on deck for probably another 10 mins before he's summoned by the doctor. That's when we find out the pill Cam gave Lyn really was poison. But I guess the director forgot about the 10 minute deadline!

Sheldon:"Was the starfish wearing boxer shorts? Because you might have been watching Nickelodeon."

reply

It was probably a shrewd guess on Cam's part that after 10 minutes it would be too late. He was on deck for all of two minutes at the most. I didn't think that was enough time for Lynne to call the ship's doctor, get to his office, and get her stomach pumped.

Why did Lynne keep Cam & the detective talking all that time? She should have hustled them out, locked herself in the bathroom, and stuck her finger down her throat.

reply

She certainly wouldn't have been convicted of murder. Any lawyer worth his salt would have established that he could have place the pills in her aspirin bottle, just as he put one in her drink. And if the ship's detective testified that she acknowledged adding old aspirin to the new bottle, there's no evidence that they weren't, indeed, aspirin that she'd added. He admitted prior knowledge of the poison in the bottle, he admitted adding known poison to her drink, and he had all the motive that she did for the prior murders, with the same opportunity. As for her calling the ship's doctor, of course she did - out of fear, from his admission to having poisoned her drink, as witnessed by the ship's detective. She would walk, but HE just might get tried!

reply

Lynn's hesitation is accounted for by her rational skepticism as to whether Cam really poisoned her drink or, on the other hand, was bluffing in order to extract a confession. As the minutes pass she becomes more and more nervous, and when she finally begins to feel the symptoms, hustles to the ship's doctor. After her stomach is pumped Cam is sought out to tell him what happened. It all makes sense.

We're told to notice the "W" on the aspirin tablet, but the label on the aspirin bottle is from the "M" Brand (M. Products Inc. New York). Flip a W over and you get an M.

Additionally: Before Cam turns the aspirin bottle over showing the (studio produced) label, you can see the imprint on the glass bottle with the words 'The Bayer Co.'

reply

The 10 minutes was just a guess to pressure her.

I liked the resolution but the ending felt tacked on. It's like the director wanted to keep the viewer guessing as long as possible but sacrificed a coherent ending because of it. It's like... "did she really do it?... yes now off to jail and let's end this picture without any emotion."

reply

What I found puzzling about the ending was ... Why wasn't Cam charged with attempted murder?

I can't bear labels.
