What the F was that?

A line from this movie, "To an oriental, all American women are beautiful blondes" ??? America's superiority complex at work and unashamed. I could just puke.

reply

That's 1950s America, as was portrayed by Hollywood, white is right and nothing else mattered.

reply

Relax, it was a bad, silly movie.

reply

I actually heard an Asian guy say this once. Yeesh.

reply

I agree, it was just a silly remark, and probably appropriate for those non-PC times.

The Wire...the best series in the history of television

reply

Yeah thank god we've upped the ante on political correctness here. I'm against racism and all, but seriously...it's a movie, it's a quote, and it represents the time from which this was made. I say F the PC movement as it has gone out of control, "don't hurt my feelings please I don't know whatever I would do if I was called such a thing ohhh my feeeelings!"

And it's actually kinda funny b/c there are jokes that go around about how all asians look the same to whites and blacks while blacks look the same to all whites and asians and all whites look the same to all blacks and asians. Come on, lighten up a bit.

reply

And to a Caucasian American, all Oriental women are beautiful mysteries--still a little bit true, even today. We all seem to have some unexamined stereotypes in our heads, including some self-hating ones about our own people. Relax.

reply

I am a white guy and to me all the actresses from the Hollywood 1950s movies look like beautiful blondes whom I can hardly differentiate.
