Rarely seen a woman play a drunk so well

The movie was probably supposed to be a thriller, but I think the comedy elements actually stole the show. I especially liked the scenes of the main female character being drunk. I've noticed that female actors often cannot play a drunk person very well. Probably because many women have little experience of being drunk. But this woman apparently had a lot of experience, or she was just that good of an actor.

I just watched TCM's "Les Girls" and Kay Kendall zoomed around, singing Bizet's "Habanera" (dubbed most likely) at highest C-level and charging like a 'toro' at her roomie's tummy---hilarious dipsomania!!

Anne Baxter was a really talented actress but her subtle performance here must have owed something to Fritz Langs` direction. So many of the other performances in the movie are understated and precise, just what was needed in dealing with melodramatic material.
