How things have changed

My daughter and I watched this and about died laughing when the main character's street was blocked off by the cops so they could capture him for bigamy. Boy, try calling the police these days and tell them you want them to go after someone because he's a "baby daddy." I see stories on true crime shows where women are emotionally and financially destroyed by a bigamist, and the law couldn't care less. This was a good film, and I love Ida Lupino.

I don't see where things have changed as far as bigamy goes the irony is how many bigamist that get arrested and tried are ministers e.g. Minister Harold Garth, Minister Roderick Sangster, Minister Lynn Antonio Jackson who was also an assistant high school principle.

I'm sure there are men arrested for this in other occupations but most of the time it's some guy who is a member of the clergy.

The guy in this movie was just another tool, and just another example of why women think all men lie and cheat. I'm amazed at how long most of these guys in real life are actually able to pull it off for so long without getting caught, just like the tool in this movie.

Movies will make you famous; Television will make you rich; But theatre will make you good.

It just shows how degraded our society has become. The judge spoke about the moral law being more important than the civil law. This case would be for Judge Judy now, and she would only deal with the money issue. If you showed this film in the hood it would be like showing life on Mars.

Unless you're a Muslim and you live in Australia. Then you can flout our laws and have as many wives as you like. And yeah, just what is a "babby daddy"?

I must be behind the times, but I am less intrigued by what a "baby daddy" is than by what a "rivergirl" is???????

You and your daughter were apparently not paying the best of attention that you thought the police had blocked off the street and were waiting the arrest the bigamist. He had given himself up to the police, obviously on the advice of his lawyer, but they let him go up to give the bad news to his wife (# 1) while they waited in their car. Bigamists were rarely prosecuted in those days either. Again since you missed it, he turned himself in, without which he probably would not have been prosecuted. This was an excellent movie, a well-done treatment of a sensitive subject, though I suspect the average bigamist then as now was and is a much more sinister character than Harry.
