Filming 2 Weeks For The Actors / 5 Months For The Beast ?

I am not sure how long it took to film the live action scenes, but in his book, Ray Harryhausen states that it took 5 months to complete all of the animation sequences. In actuality, it sometimes took Ray longer to complete the animation in his other movies, and in some cases a year(!), because doing stop-motion is quite a meticulous process. But the producers of THE BEAST, only give Ray a limited time span to complete everything and a minuscule budget to boot. Ray had to dig into his own pockets in order to get everything done, and as a result, this movie actually costs Ray money. He states that he made more doing his fairy-tale shorts!
