I Love This Movie

June Allyson is so cute and she and Bogart are fantastic together. This is a highly under-rated movie!

(CONTAINS SPOILERS)I only caught the tail end of this movie because I had fallen asleep in my recliner before the movie even began on TCM. I LOVED what little I saw.

HOWEVER... I'm not sure that those folks who really liked the M.A.S.H. movie and the later TV series will like this film because it has no wisecracking surgeons or people pulling pranks on each other. It's a serious movie.

To me the most intense part of the movie was when they were waiting for a train to load the wounded on and they were being shelled by the advancing North Korean Army.

My favorite part was where they were evacuating patients in ambulances. The North Koreans were advancing. The vehicles had to go down a steep hill. They unloaded the patients to prevent them from being shaken up on the trip down. There was no road only rough terrain. If I recall right a jeep flipped over on the trip down and one ambulance lost it's brakes and almost crashed. The patients were eventually carried down the hill by ALL of the M.A.S.H. personell.

I can't imagine any of the characters from the movie or the TV show carrying patients down a steep hill except for radar or Father Mulcahey. No they'd be too busy complaining, wisecracking, or pulling practical jokes on one another.

My favorite line from this movie was where one soldier said to the other " Those people (Referring to the M.A.S.H. people) are the ones who deserve all the medals".
