Bogarde's partner ANTONY FORWOOD is in this,does anybody know if they were already together when this was made?

Bogade's history interests me,he has written several volumes of biography,but many people say they are untrue.
I know he never announced he was gay but people of my parents generation seemed to know he was,so did everybody in the film industry know?
