Dobie does not come across as straight to me

I'm not buying Dobie as a straight guy, from the first second he's on the screen. It isn't helped by naming his supposed love interest Pansy. Is it just me?

Meanings of words have changed over the last 60 years. Pansy didn't mean effimenent, it was a name and the word gay didn't mean homosexual. Just as the word fag meant cigarette. You're obviously too young to be aware of this and probably unsure of your own sexuality.
