Tommy Rettig singing

Can anyone tell me if Tommy Rettig's singing was dubbed in this movie? It's pertty seamless, but the voice seems remarkably mature for such a young boy, especially his solo on 'Dream Stuff'.

reply

I don't recall the kid's name, but it's not Tommy Rettig doing any of the singing. The other boy was about the same age, and was something of a professional singer. Tommy said he himself could barely carry a tune and was always impressed by the other kid's singing.

Thanks for the reply excel99 - I thought it didn't sound like Tommy. Whoever the other kid was, he did good.

I just looked into it a little further... Tommy Rettig's voice was dubbed by Tony Butala, who also appeared as one of the piano boys in the film.

reply

Tony grew up to become the lead singer of THE LETTERMAN.
I am not sure why Tommy couldn't do the singing; didn't he appear in the musical ANNIE GET YOUR GUN with Mary Martin?? He would have had to sing in that.

reply

Singing on stage is very different from singing in films due to the technical aspects of movie making and putting voices on film.
