Walkman?

I watched this movie for the first time a couple of days ago and I noticed that in one of the scenes Bart is trapped in a cage. Correct me if im wrong but did he steal the sleeping guards walkman (or other personal music device) to make music for his bottle? I found this strange since the movie was only made in the 50s.

Wasn't that a hearing aid?

"Everett Sloane - he was good - pills. Margaret Sullivan, pills. Lupe Velez, a lot of pills."

It was a hearing aid. Here is a picture of a similar one from the 1950's http://www.worldhearing.com/picts/Audimite.jpg

YES IT is a hearing aid, and it figures prominently for the conclusion of the movie, the kid needed it to make his ATOMIC device. Watch the movie to the end next time.

I don't understad your confusion, portable transistor radios first appeared in 1950, by 1953 (when this movie was made) the craze had swept the world, I have one from the early 50s and it measures 2.5" wide, by 4" tall and 1.5 thick, smaller than any early walkman type radio until a few years back with mini digital radios. it came with earphones,( there called "ear buds" today, same thing different sales name") a micropone and a switch to make it a PA transmitter, ( havn't seen that on a radio since the mid 60s) and runs on a 9v battery, it is in a (real) leather holder, with belt holes on back to slip on your belt. The Walkman came to popularity because the had a cassette player added, and a clip to affix to your pants, shorts or belt, and the word walkman written on it, but it was nothing new, yes it was in stereo, and later the cassette was replaced by the cd in the late 80s early 90s, and many over the past 30 years are only am/fm or sattilite radio (XM, Sirius), but otherwise it was just a portable radio with headphones and a clip, and packaged to sell like hot cakes.

I don't understand YOUR confusion because you obviously haven't seen the film. Thanks for enlightening us on the history of the transistor radio, but what is seen in the film is obviously a hearing aid. Obviously because one of the characters refers to it as such.
