I've never seen it, but I don't like the sound of this

What was Dr. T. doing to those captured boys with his 5,000 fingers? Something filthy, no doubt.

LOL!

It's funny to see how times and imagination has changed. This is the deal:
(Condensed Spoiler!)

Dr. T. created the biggest piano in the world...of which he needed 5,000 fingers, those would be of children he taught piano to, to play music the way he wants.

I classify this film as one of the totally weiredst ever...it's Dr. Suess but it is more a lot about a little boy's imagination.

It was probably a metaphor for something too wrong.

In the official or canon sense it may be "about a little boy's imagination". But the back story, as I understand it, is that the movie was severely altered after primary completion, and the beginning and end scenes with Bart falling asleep and, at the end, waking up from a dream, were shot and added much later. It was not originally one of those it-was-all-a-dream stories.

Yes. He was making them practice the piano.

Shocking.

The horror!

reply

Completely sinister and depraved!

He was actually going to make 500 boys PRACTICE THE PIANO!

Oh, the humanity!!!

Your post-modern sense of imagining the worst thing imaginable is understandable, but please remember, this is Dr Seuss we are talking about. It is SO great that the worst thing he can describe is making a boy practice the piano.

If I thought about it too much, I might be depressed how times have changed. And I wasn't even alive when this movie came out...

That is Funny.
I was about 8, and I DID take piano, when I saw this film.
I remember being truly scared and sorry for the kids that had to
play and play and play. haha. My experience was bad enough, due
to the fact that my piano teacher had a goiter & bulging eyes, and
liked to slowly clip my little fingernails.
...so YEAH!! It was a very memorable movie for me.
I think this film is way deep in my hard drive, though.
Whenever I watch it, I still feel the empathetic dread!
Love IT!!
