general synopsis, please

I barely remember this show. I was somewhat younger than Linda and wanted to BE her so badly! Was Danny T. married before? Rusty called Marjorie Lord "Kathy". I kinda remember the Hans Conreid character but the only time I have seen the Williams family is on a Lucy/Desi comedy hour episode. Is this available on dvd?

I also remember Pat Carroll and Sid Melton being on later episodes - they played Charlie and Bunny. Bill Dana was on earlier episodes as the elevator man. There was another daughter that Danny and Margaret had and her name was Terry. As for them being on The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, they played the Williams family. Lucy, Ricky and Little Ricky were to go away for a month or so for a job Ricky was going to take, so they rented their house to Danny and his family (Kathy, Rusty and Linda)who wanted to simply. The job fell through so Ricky, Lucy and little Ricky ended up staying at the Mertzes. Lucy tried her best to get Danny and family out so the could move back, things didnt work out and they all ended up in court!

Thanks...I am hoping to get this dvd. Watching this with my family is a fond memory (though a vague one!). I had one of those Big Chief tablets with "Linda's" picture on it. I thought I was way cool!

Actually Pat Carroll and Sid Melton appeared in the earlier seasons (1-4) along with Mary Wickes (playing Danny's publicist) and Jesse White (playing Danny's agent). Sid Melton appeared through the whole run, but Pat Carroll didn't reappear until season 9. Bill Dana didn't join the series until season 9.

The early seasons (1-4) focused on the Williams household: Danny (father), Magaret (wife), Terri (pre-teen daughter), Rusty (young son), and Louise (housekeeper). The family (except Louise) often travelled with Danny to out of town engagements. Danny didn't have a regular contract at the Copa until much later when he married Kathy, and her daughter Linda made 3 children in the house.

There were licensing/copyright issues with the first 4 seasons, so they are not part of the regular syndication. Sometimes you can find them on your local independent networks like channel 1. That's where I was able to record many of the episodes from seasons 1-4 over the air (for personal use).

No, sid melton was not in the early years... not at all in the years the show had Jean Hagen as their mom... he was on roughly from 1959-1963. The show aired from 1953 - 1965.

Amazon.com has quite a few seasons and volumes on both vhs and dvd. Be sure to search under both because there may be more available under vhs, but I really didn't do that close of a comparison. I have the 7 volume vhs set and it is great. Amazon has season 5 on dvd - season 5 is the season Marjorie Lord started as Kathy. Although I'd like to have season's 1-4 also, I'll take what I can get.

"Was Danny T. married before?"

Yes. Jean Hagen played his first wife (Mrs. Margaret Williams) from 1953-56. She quit the series (disastisfied with her role). Her best known role is Lina Lamont in the 1952 movie musical Singin' In The Rain.

"Rusty called Marjorie Lord "Kathy"."

Danny's second on screen wife and Rusty's mother-in-law. Danny, it is explained, is a widower. His first onscreen wife died somehow.

"I kinda remember the Hans Conreid character"

Danny's Uncle Tonoose. A popular character who made repeated visits to the Williams' apartment throughout the series run.

"but the only time I have seen the Williams family is on a Lucy/Desi comedy hour episode."

They have released the Lucy/Desi comedy hour episodes on DVD. The Danny Williams episode is when Danny rents Lucy's house, looking for some rest and Lucy just cant bear having them in her house.

Jean Hagen's departure from the show was explained with Danny telling the children (Sherry and Rusty) that Mom had gone to heaven. This was very daring in those days of TV. Nobody was supposed to die.
