Why Isn't It on TV
When is the last time Make Room For Daddy has been on in reruns. I am surprised the show isn't on TV Land.

shareIt's been a long time since I've seen it on tv. I guess it's not on TV Land because they are too busy showing that other so-called "classic" tv crap.
shareTV Land lost its "classic TV" credentials when it began showing post-70s crap. The network has lost its way. Remember when Nick at Nite was the classic station? It lost its way. Replaced by TV Land. And then. . .
They seem bent on losing their way.
That's kind of harsh calling everything post-70s "crap".
shareMETV needs to put this back on!
"A real man would rather bow down to a strong woman than dominate a weak one"
That, unfortunately, is how most people are to anything that isn't 50's and 60's TV; they don't think that any other age can become 'classic' like the '50's and '60's. It's also the attitude underpinning TCM as well-that channel won't show any 70's and 80's movies in as large an amount as they should be, because of a similar mindset among the programmers and viewers (only the '20's, 30's, '40's, '50's, and '60's are worth showing to them.)
shareThe last time I've seen it on tv, in syndicated reruns, was in the early-1980s.
I do wish they would release all seasons on DVD. So far there is only season 5.
Unfortunately, there are many shows, and this is one, that are not shown on TV anymore. It seems that their last hurrah was in the 1980's and very early 1990's.
The shows I am talking about are this show, Donna Reed, Father Knows Best, The Patty Duke Show, Bachelor Father, Private Secretary, The Ann Sothern Show, Love That Bob, I Married Joan, The Farmer's Daughter, My Little Margie, Life of Riley, Courtship of Eddie's Father. I'm sure others could add to this list.
I think the major problem is that these shows are all B & W and many younger viewers will not watch anything in B & W and or made before 1980. Also the people in charge at TVLand are not the people who were there 20 yrs ago when Nick and Nite started, and they only want to put on what will attract younger viewers. It's quite sad, someday very few will know who Charlie Chaplin or Laurel and Hardy were, let alone Danny Thomas.
What I do wish is that they would release these shows on DVD. I know many people would buy these if they were available.

Its really a darn shame that this show is not on television. I liked it much better than say The Dick Van Dyke show.
I think we all need to blitz TV Land with emails and hopefully they'll put this on the air again!:-)

I don't think that the fact that it's in black and white is the issue. TV Land shows "The Andy Griffith Show", "I Love Lucy", "Leave it to Beaver", "The Munsters" and "The Adams Family" and all of those, except for the 64'-67' seasons of "The Andy Griffith Show" are in B&W. No, there must be some other reason. Someone who knows how to needs to start a petition to get it on TV Land. The last tine I viewed that program on TV was in 89', when it was on Nick at Nite.

But, The Three Stooges will live on! nyuk, nyuk nyuk.
"The Courtship of Eddie's Father" was in color.
You were very obviously watching it on a black and white tv set.
I agree, I miss it too. I remember the syndicated reruns from the 1960's. I wanted to be Angela Cartwright because she always wore such pretty clothes on the show.
shareLast time I saw it on TV was about 10 years on Goodlife, now called AmericanLife TV.
shareUnfortunately whenever the show has aired in the last 20 years the ratings have been terrible. It has bombed on Nick at Nite as well as in local syndication. Sad but true.
shareI know that they put certain shows on cable stations like TV Land, Nick at Nite and ION to try them out. There are also syndication conventions where tv shows are displayed and different stations pick them up. If they do not get picked up, they are not aired. Due to the dating and political incorrectness of the times, younger viewers get offended or do not understand that era in history. For example, "Welcome Back Kotter" was a hit in the 70's. In the late 90', when Nick at Nite aired it, the viewers disliked the inexperience and lack of timing with the young actors. So, they ratings fell and Nick at Nite pulled it. I am sure the same thing happened with other older tv shows.

Good news for "Make Room For Daddy" fans! Me-TV will be adding MRFD to their schedule this fall. Also, they will be adding "The Donna Reed Show", "Night Gallery", "Emergency" & "Remington Steele". I'll be looking forward to Donna Reed & Night Gallery, as I haven't seen many of either. I could do without Remington Steele, though. METV started with S.5 with the Cathy. I would have liked have had them start with S.1.1.

I just started taping it.... Why did they start w/ season 5? Anyone know? I agree -- I would have loved them to have begun it at it's actual beginning!

ahh, right. I never would have known. thank you. so the big question is, why don't they make all episodes available for syndication? what's the big secret?!

The greed of the corporations -- because they're too cheap to pay the royalties. That's the bottom line. Incredible.
Notice how our beloved older shows are chopped into bits to make them fit into the time slot with the added "benefit" of more commercials? Why can't they just air the show AS IS, and sacrifice those extra 3-4 minutes of commercials? How many more times can I see a hoveround or callus removal system?
You do realize that this is a commercial channel, and they they have to have ads to pay for it all, right? And that the reason this is is because of capitalism? The same system that people like you will defend to the death?
shareThat wouldn't explain why they don't show season 4 which does not feature Hagen.
Season 4 is a real oddity, especially for early TV. Danny Thomas appeared in a wheelchair for the season; the presumption is that he and his wife had been in an accident and she was killed. Marjorie Lord showed up as a nurse in the last 4 episodes of the season and Linda was played by a child other than Angela Cartwright.

Netflix does have the first four seasons. It's really great seeing all of them!
