[Film Club] Did what Hitchcock wanted to do (spoilers)

This (excellent) film reminded me of Hitchcock's "Suspicion", only Bunuel got away with doing what Hitch wanted. I wonder if "El" was in some way inspired by Suspicion. It would be interesting if it was because "El" reminds me in many ways of "Vertigo" by Hitch, which was made some 5 years later.

Hitchcock and Buñuel could have conversed about their common Catholic guilt.

Hitchcock stole that whole scene straight from Bunuel.

I love Hitchcock but I must say that I agree-
sudden shocking scenes are Hitchcock's trademark, but Buñuel put it in his films, and they are amazing, I'm out of words literally. I've discovered Buñuels film last week and I'm simply flabbergasted.

It's amazing that I'm former TV addict, love watching movies - I have large collection, and yet at age of 38 I have discovered that there is a whole movie genre I had no idea it existed... while Hitchcock and others "borrowed" it for their own mainstream flicks so that ignorant majority like me can watch it.
