Susan Hayward

Susan Hayward is thrilling to watch, but this is not the movie I'd see over and over again. Love her hard edge in so many films. She is legendary, but here she is just great eye candy. Maybe the postwar period is not first on my list.

She's a great actress, but in this one there's not enough acting to do. She's just looking fab, lip-syncing Jane Froman's voice.

Hadn't seen her in a long time until Canyon Passage recently--great scenery, Dana Andrews and Brian Donlevy to fight over her, Andy Devine for comedy and Hoagy Carmichael to sign Ol' Buttlermilk Sky. Who could ask for anything more!

Normally - I can stare at her all day. But I couldn't take her in this film. Just a lot of lip-synching, and her speaking with that phoney Southern accent. I'd rather just look at a photo of her.
