The USA stands in for Canada? What a switch...

So many films of the '70's and later were filmed in British Columbia and Alberta standing in for Montana, Washington, and Wyoming. In the '50's I guess the reverse is true...what caused the change? Unions?

Money and civilization... Later on cheaper to make a movie in Canada and not NY because it was cheaper....
