im a bit like that too, you can watch it but don't expect to be frilled by it.

At least it is fairly short and digestible. I found Za Za Gabor unbearable to watch - not the greatest actress, and the guy who played her husband was annoying. The difference with early Marilyn with that a few years later is astounding! Just shows what colour film did for her - she always looked so amazing in technicolour.

Her figure was so adorable.

But, I agree with the OP. It was a bit disappointing.

Pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space 'cos its bugger all down here on Earth.

I liked Marilyn in this particularly because she talks like a regular person,
without that breathless baby-doll affect that directors insisted upon in "All
About Eve" and "Some Like it Hot". I guess people found that sexy in the 50's.

"Could be worse."
"Howwww?"
"Could be raining."

i found it to be quite cute

I'll admit I initally watched it because of Marilyn's presence and was disappointed that she hadn't a larger role and that there wasn't a more cohesive story but I still enjoyed it for what it was. It's a pleasant, sunday afternoon type movie.

I bought the DVD because of Ginger Rogers, and she certainly didn't disappoint me, since she was brilliant and funny as usual. Sadly, I can't say the same about the rest of the cast/film (except perhaps for Eve Arden, who's always amusing and enjoyable to watch).

Agree with the last poster - Rogers and (especially) Fred Allen were
hilarious, unquestionably the sharpest couple/story. Arden and Douglas
were also amusing, but the rest of this film was almost unbearable. I've
never seen Louis Calhern this awful, and Gabor is useless. And the
final segment was so dull, I kept nodding off. The script, as well as
the idiotic Eddie Bracken were like Ambien in a DVD player. Zzzzzzzzz...

Monroe's section is useless and pointless. A very, very uneven film.

LOL, he was truly insufferable in just anything. I wonder if he really was considered funny or charming back then. I always try to avoid most movies in which he took part in.

Listen, I'm a gay guy, and Bracken almost turns me heterosexual.

By the way, is that a pic of you? If so, you are HOT.

reply

LOL, same here. If most men were like him, I'd be into girls, that's for sure.

And yes, that's me. Thank you very much!

I enjoyed this film. I felt the basic concept was original and fairly well executed. The cast and the writing (by Nunnally Johnson, a highly regarded screenwriter) was very good.

I am no fan of Eddie Bracken but here I felt his presence wasn't detrimental. Due to the format (five separate scenarios) no one performer could have too much to do. Because of this those that are looking for a Marilyn Monroe film will probably be disappointed.

Not a comic gem but certainly worth seeing at least once.

Bracken had a peculiar shape as well.

reply

By shape do you mean his build?

In what way do you feel he was "peculiar"?

reply

Soft jaw line, high waist, large backside.

Built for comedy

agree, very forgettable movie, not one memorable scene/dialogue/line in the entire movie
