Did anyone else notice the bottle of milk?

In the scene where the maid goes into the kitchen at night to make coffee or something, there's an open bottle of milk on the table. Do these people not know that the milk will go bad very quickly? I know this is a minor point, but it caused me to wonder why.

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, or doesn't.

Yes, I also saw it and wondered why the maid would not have put in the fridge.

I have heard that Europeans are not as fastidious about food and cleanliness as Americans are. Still, you would think that taking a big gulp of sour milk would be enough to make anyone see the light, culture or no culture.

Actually Europeans are far more fastidious food than Americans - take a look at their approaches to GM food for instance.

As for the milk - where should she put it? Its post war Italy - its not like they have refrigerators.
