Great Los Angeles locations...

Only three of the reviews make any reference to the film's Los Angeles locations. From what I could tell, the majority of the film was shot in actual locations rather than studio sets. There's a great scene that takes place in Angel's Flight on Bunker Hill, which you all may remember from CRISS CROSS (1949). And there's a killer-stalking-target scene in a large fight arena, which another poster here identifies possibly as the Olympic arena in L.A. Plus lots of movement around other parts of L.A. That was the most interesting aspect of it to me. The story itself was kind of routine and relied on a Kefauver-type crime commission to give it some kind of topical feel. William Holden and Edmond O'Brien would be reunited 17 years later in THE WILD BUNCH.

At one point in the film it's referred to as a "Midwestern Town".

There is a documentary about Los Angeles that was recently available on Netflix about the real city vs that shown in movies. It particularly lamented the demise of the run down section of the city that that incline railroad rode up and down through. They showed a clip of Ralph Meeker driving down a street with the incline running behind him.

What fascinated me the most was an independent movie shot at a baseball game in an old park, long since torn down. Fans of all races attended this game. Films from major studios never showed this. Why? The union for these types of actors forbade it.
