As director, and only his finished features, of course...

Please rate the films you've seen (out of 10, or 4-stars system, or 'from best to worst'), post/add your comments, recommendations, etc. ANY feedback very welcome and much appreciated. Thanks for your participation.

My humble 'impressions' (rates) are added.

Histoire immortelle (The Immortal Story, 1968, TV)* 7/10
Campanadas a medianoche (Chimes at Midnight, 1965) 9/10
Le procès (The Trial, 1962) 9/10
Touch of Evil (1958) 9/10

P.S. - This is actually a repost from FG board (deleted long ago), and I apologize to all who already participated there. It would be really nice, if you could repeat the excercise here, in humble hope that this thread will be 'alive' a little longer. Thank you for your understanding.

* - borderline, different sources different opinions (LOL), for some just a 'short' (medium length actually).

EDIT! May 2013 - finished this filmography. YAY!

Only missing F for Fake and not a huge fan of Welles. I think he's films are original and mostly interesting, but largely bombastic, unsubtle and often strangely behind there time in everyway bar visually. Even then i'm not a big fan of his visual style either, i find it over-bearing and grating mostly. It's a shame he didn't do too much more after The Immortal Story, seems like he has developing some restraint in that (his best) film.

1. The Immortal Story (1968) 8/10
2. Citizen Kane (1941) 8/10
3. Campanadas a medianoche (1965) 7.5/10
5. Touch of Evil (1958) 7/10
6. The Tragedy of Othello: The Moor of Venice (1952) 7/10
7. The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) 6.5/10 (really hard to judge as it's so obviously supposed to be at least twice the length. Could've been his greatest!)
8. Macbeth (1948) 6/10
9. The Lady from Shanghai (1947) 6/10
10. Filming 'Othello' (1978) 5.5/10
11. Le Procès (1962) 5/10
12. The Stranger (1946) 4/10
13. Mr. Arkadin (1955) 2/10

Thank you very much for your rates and additional comments, once again. Much appreciated, as always.

Interesting thoughts about his style and your dislike of it.

"It's a shame he didn't do too much more after The Immortal Story, seems like he has developing some restraint in that (his best) film."

That's the most interesting part. Haven't seen it, but I'm not surprised it was 'restrained' since it's a TV movie (planned to be a part of 4 'connected' ones, all based on Dinesen, right?) with quite a different approach (I assume).
Cheers for all your feedback!

Yes, a very different approach. Much more stripped down, minimal, more European. Made me interested in checking out F for Fake.

Just added another as i remembered i've seen "Filming Othello" too.

F for Fake is definitely not like that. Neither stripped down nor minimal... but perhaps European.

Apparently The Merchant of Venice is supposed to be more like The Immortal Story. The style comes, I believe, as both were originally made for TV (neither were shown, however).

And I just wanted to add that you have one weeeird view of cinema if you honestly believe what you say. I think I'll look around for some of your elaborations on your views, as they are perplexing.

I proclaim ignorance in everything I say.

In order to gain some elaboration from me, why don't you ask some questions and elaborate yourself on why i have a weeeird view of cinema?

I get this a lot from people when i pick holes in some of those generic "greatest directors of all time" that everyone seems to adore. Fellini, Bergman, Welles....i've even had it for voicing a little dislike for most of Howard Hawks' work.
