DVD + Blu-ray from Fox (!) Dec. 13, 2011

Stars and Stripes Forever is being released in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on December 13, 2011. Retail price is $34.99.

This is the first classic film Fox itself has released from its library in almost three years.

It's unfortunate that you have to buy both discs to get one, but this is nothing new, and probably the cheapest way Fox figured it could market the film. Still, it's not in the audience's interest.

Anyway, the extras (it's unclear at this time whether the featurettes will be available on both discs, in whole, in part or at all), include the following:

*From Our National March to Silver Screen
*John Philip Sousa's Contributions to American Music
*Pressbook, advertising and still gallery
*Original Theatrical Trailer

If Fox does plan to release further titles from its vast untapped library of older films, it seems likely they'll be in this same dual format, like it or not. But at least this film is finally becoming available. No great classic by any means, but enjoyable enough.

Yes, I agree with your point. I didn't get it quite as cheap as you but certainly didn't pay full price!
