Gregory Peck

Worst actor in history? Completely wooden and the same from movie to movie with no charisma whatsoever

reply

For your first post, you're not off to a very good start. If you don't care for Gregory Peck's style, that's fine, but referring to him as the "worst actor in history" is an extremely ignorant statement.

reply

Not ignorant at all, it's based on seeing lots of movies. There has to be a worst actor, just as there has to be a best. Perhaps there are ties at the top and bottom. But the only intelligent way to respond is nominate your opinion of the worst actor.

reply

Yeah, he's not even close to being the worst actor of all-time. None of the actors in the film gave worthy performances but none of them are bad actors. Peck was great in so many movies (To Kill a Mockingbird, Duel in the Sun, Gentleman's Agreement, Roman Holiday, The Big Country, Cape Fear, The Boys from Brazil etc.) and does not deserve to be called the worst actor of all-time from someone who obviously has no idea what he's talking about.

"WHY DIDN'T YOU STARVE FIRST?!" - Humphrey Bogart, 'Dead End' (1937)

reply

I don't know why stating an opinion about a mediocre dead actor provokes insults, but as I said previously, the only logical way to respond is nominate your favorite "worst actor". BTW, I will qualify my opinion as being "worst of his generation". In all the movies you mentioned (none of which are especially good, Mockingbird being the most over rated and Cape Fear being the best of a run of the mill bunch), he was the same wooden guy.

reply

He was so pretty. Too bad he couldn't act.

reply

Using terms such as "lots" and "logical" and "worst" and "worst of his generation" and "most over rated" are signs of someone who is not comfortable dealing in nuanced understanding.

Those who are the most critical of the success of others are those who have accomplished very little on their own.

reply

I'm just seeing this. See this is a little more then criticizing a actor he acts like he got left out of his will or something. Lighten up buddy. Ok you don't like his acting, we get it. But you obviously got some kind of grudge. Deal with it somewhere else, preferably a Psychiatrist office or get over it. And you must be either some type of psycho or a sadist if you think you can come over here and call Peck the "worst actor of all time" and no one is going object to it.

reply

You're greatly mistaken. As long as Keanu Reeves works, nobody can be the worst actor. Best they could do is second worst. Wait...let's not forget Tom Cruise. 3rd worst.

reply

Appreciate your reply. I've actually received hate mail over my post.

In defense of Keanu, Bill and Ted and My Own Private Idaho. My criteria for a good actor is he played two completely different characters with charisma. OK, that was 21 years ago, but still.

In defense of Tom, Risky Business and All the Right Moves. OK, maybe not that different. But how 'bout his part in Tropical Thunder?

I've never seen Peck being anything other than a bland handsome guy, very serious, with a great radio voice. Did he ever do a comedy?

reply

Of course he did comedies, or comedy/dramas.

But you don't have to be a comedian to do comedies.

He was cast in comedies where he was a bland handsome guy, very serious, with a great radio voice.

reply

Egads! "jimbo" is now back as "TexasJimbo" (what next, "Big D Jimbo")?

And, he still "hates" Gregory Peck!

Even worse, he still doesn't know the difference between subjective and objective. (Maybe that will be covered next semester, when he takes English 102.)

reply

GP was a handsome man with a very nice voice, but his acting was a little wooden. I liked him in Designing Women when he played comedy. Still a little stiff, though. There are a lot worse actors than GP.

reply

He was good in Moby Dick or Moby Dick was good in spite of him. Terrific in To Kill a Mocking Bird but otherwise he's pretty dull. As for the worst.. I'd go with Glenn Ford he's so bland he makes Peck look like Brando.

reply

I don't care who is the worst actor but Peck is just unbearable - he seems so immersed in himself, so obsessed with his persona that there is non much place left for whatever character he is portraying. Yes, he was handsome but that's not enough and sometimes it makes even more boring his presence on the screen. I just detest the way he pronounces his lines as if they were the biggest philosophical profundities. He is simply too much in every way and that is what is ruining his performances in every film he is in. And it doesn't help that most of the movies he was in were badly written and directed. He should've followed the example of Reagan and should've entered into politics, or something, where his looks would've been more important than everything else.

reply

I've always liked Gregory Peck, and yes, he definitely has a style, but I never found him boring. However, this was not his best role. Capt. Newman M.D. is my favorite.
