This isnt a D4MN thing like the book

The book moved me to unbelievably degree, once again the movie dosnt touch it. I guess its not supposed to. Rather its not possible. Hemingway is THE best, go read all his works

I was very disappointed in the movie, they lopped off the entire ending that made the story what it was. I dig Peck, though.

What happpened in the end? What was the deal with the tree?

*SPOILERS*
In the short story, he dies...here, he seems to be ok. Is this a dream sequence, or a tacky Hollywood happy ending?

I saw the movie a couple of weeks ago, and decided to read the short story. What a difference. . . . All of the scenes of Harry with former girlfriends/wives are not in the book at all except for the woman played by Susan Hayward. The ending was different also. I wonder if Hemingway gave permission for the studio to make these changes?

*spoilers*
It is "a tacky Hollywood happy ending". Unfortunately. And the tree, at the beginning of the movie, it is full of vultures who have sensed his injury and are expecting his possible death.
By the way, I'm a Roger Waters' fan as well :)

After reading the short story many (many!) times over the years, I finally got around to watching the movie. It's public domain now and you can watch it in full on Youtube.

I was very disappointed in the ending. I figured they'd have to improvise quite a bit (to make a 2 hour movie out of a short story)...but I agree... you have to wonder what Hemingway thought of it.

Very strange they changed it.
