I noticed that in the final scenes it's clear that Eddie lives under the shadow of the Coit Tower (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Coittower1.jpg) which is explicitly mentioned in another great 1950s film that uses San Francisco as a major feature - Hitchcock's Vertigo.
