Where is a DVD for this...

I'm surprised that this one of the few classic films not released on DVD. It's way ahead of its time. Columbia, please stop holding this movie hostage and give it a deserved DVD release!

From the DVDTalk review of the upcoming CAINE MUTINY release:

"Noir fans take note: When they show a clip from Kramer and Dymtryk's The Sniper as part of "Inside The Caine Mutiny," a note at the bottom informs us that this excellent film about a nihilistic shooter is on its way to DVD soon!"

Hopefully Columbia starts releasing noir sets since they are big money makers.

I hope so too. I really liked this film.

A year has passed...and still no DVD! What's going on at Sony?

reply

I've just read an interview with one of Sony's home video execs and it looks like they will start releasing their film noirs starting next year. Hopefully The Sniper will be included in one of those sets.

I wrote to Sony a couple of weeks ago and I just got a reply saying that The Sniper is in the mix for the sets for 2009. Martin Scorsese is apparently selecting which films will be in Vol. 1 of the sets so maybe it will make it.

It will be in Columbia's Film Noir Classics I to be released Nov. 3, 2009. Also, in the collection are The Big Heat, 5 Against the House, The Lineup and Murder by Contract. It sounds like a good group of movies.

This movie should be used to show the necessity of treating people fairly and show the negative results of discourtesy, bullying and harassment.
