Oscar mistake

Should have won best picture but not even nominated. Went to the mistitled Greatest.Show on Eartb.

Greatest is cringeworthy and embarrassingly bad. But I still maintain that Singing is overrated.
To me it only comes alive when Hagen is performing aside from 2 or 3 dance numbers.
It is AWFULLY stagey and today has what most would consider artsy fartsy story telling. Even with the comic relief.
Too much ballet.
Though I no longer place much stock in the Academy, I wouldn't even place Singing in my top 5 from 1953.
Probably my favorite would be Moulin Rouge. But consider the others:
The Quiet Man
High Noon
Come Back Little Sheba
The Member Of The Wedding
Viva Zapata
even Ivanhoe had better production values and story.

Wow. It's got to be the best-remembered film of that year. I'd rank High Noon as the best film of 1952, but Singin' in the Rain is deservedly an all-time classic. Very surprised it wasn't even nominated.
