I LOVE all the twists , especially in the ending, but if I did the remake here's what i would do

1) the marquis de mayne would be the marquis DE Sade
2) they would have been fraternal twins seperated from birth
3) THEIR MOTHER WOULD HAVE BEEN a chamber MAID who immediatly after having
sex with her husband , was raped and her husband murdered by another marquis, whom andres' adopted parents hide HIM FROM( alla star wars )
4) AT THE END WE FIND THAT LENORE is just her STAGE NAME her real name's JOSAPHINE!
5) when they fight at the end because he can't kill his own brother instead he cuts off his hand stopping him from murdering others in duels..UNTIL MY SEQUEL

1) the Marquis' title in the novel was Marquis de la Tour d'Azyr.
2) the Marquis was actually Andre's father, not his brother.
3) Andre's real mother (and the Marquis' one time love) was a noblewoman.
4) the character's name in the novel was Climene. I see what you mean by having her being named Josephine, though.

Marquis de Sade was a lecherous character, it's where we get the word sadism. If the movie struggled to get past the censors because of a possible pre-marital relationship then I highly doubt that would get past them.
