Was any of this filmed in Europe?

In some of the horseback chases it looked like deciduous trees in the background, not really found in Southern California. The chase thru the fog was really beautiful, looked like that might have been Carmel. In one shot I did spot that old stone bridge on the MGM back lot they used in a 1000 films.

Overall the sets were spectacular.

No, the entire movie was filmed in California, with Golden Gate Park in San Francisco doubling for the French countryside.

IMDb says "Noel's castle in France" was actually filmed in France.

The horseback chase thru fog was done in San Francisco, not southern Calif., as you say.
