Maureen O'Hara

What a beauty. Did you see this film? Would you watch it every St. Patrick's day?

reply

I am indeed watching it now, in 2020. I absolutely love her. And this movie.

It was a little weird though; the way she skulked around mute and furtive at the beginning of the movie only to become so assertive and obstinate by the time of the wedding. It was a strange character arc

Think of it like loosing a genie from a bottle. In the beginning, Mary Kate literally had virtually nothing apart from the things her brother allowed her to have. (She herself alluded to this at one point if you'll recall.) Once she was free of him - albeit as Mrs. Sean Thornton - she could have and do within reason pretty much as she pleased. It's sort of complicated because Irish custom is mixed in there - and Sean mentioned that as well.
