Victor McLaglen was 66 when he made this movie, 21 years older than John Wayne. It was unfair for John Wayne to beat up on an old guy.
How is it possible for Will Danaher to be Maureen O'Hara's brother? He's 34 years older! They should have made him her father.
You seem to be confusing Victor McLaglen with the character he was playing named Will Danaher. Just because McLaglen was 66 doesn't mean that Danaher was.
Even if they were the same as as their characters it could also be that Will and Mary Kate had different mothers. Will could've been the son of his fathers first wife. If years later Will's mother died and married a younger woman and had Mary Kate.

i answered somewhat like you when someone complained victor mclaglen was too old to engage in a fight like that. i pointed out that mclaglen may have been nearly sixty four when the film was made but will danaher was 'a man from innisfree and the best man'. by the way do you contribute to an audio site? the cheese thing looks familiar.

shareVictor McLaglen may have been older, but the character was one tough guy and capable of taking care of himself. If you recall, he was the one who started the fight in the first place. By the way, as a younger man McLaglen was a pro boxer and once fought Jack Johnsonin a six-round exhibition match.
shareMcLaglen may have been in his mid 60's, but I don't think audiences thought of him as such. Can you think of another younger actor of that time who could've done as well? Anyway, many families do have large gaps in between siblings. My mother is 19 years older than her youngest brother and 21 years older than her youngest sister!

shareI noticed in these older films, they always make the parents or the middle aged parents in their 30s/40s look 70.
You'll see some 70-80 year old looking parents with a baby, a 5 year old and a 10 year old, and wonder how they accomplished that! lol!
