Stan Laurel?

Did anyone notice how much Alec Guinness was trying to model his performance on Stan Laurel? He even wore a bowler hat in one sequence. His mannerisms, gestures, walk, facial expressions and even his makeup reminded me so much of Mr. Laurel. Then again, I may have been imagining it.

I think that you could also say some of his mimetic gestures are reminiscent of Chaplin, Jaques Tati, Jean-Louis Barrault and other French comic-tragedians whose names are lost to us in 21st century.
