Looks like the 50's, not the 30's

I like this movie but: I thought it odd that there was little attempt to depict the era that it takes place in. Except for some vintage cars, all the clothes, hair styles, and language is straight out of the early 1950's. Furthermore, Dan Daily is too old for this role. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
