'It's a Wonderful Life'

Did anyone think this was a grittier, less sappy version of "It's a Wonderful Life"? This is an excellent film that stands well on its own, but I could help but think of the Christmas classic.

Never even crossed my mind. I was enthralled with this movie the entire way and never thought of "It's a Wonderful Life." I guess because the flashbacks were not about what could have happened, but what really did happen (except when Trask makes up the Rogers & Hammerstein segment for the overbearing, hateful "Mumsie").

Why does every movie get compared to IAWL? I could not see any parallel at all, except for the flashbacks. And that alone does not warrant even the slightest comparison since it has been used in countless movies.
