Hepburn's Acting

I admit, I've never been a fan of hers, so I haven't sought out many of her films for the sole purpose of watching her. Having just seen this film, I'm going to assume this was not one of her best performances. I felt like just about everyone else's performances were outstanding, compared to hers. Aldo Ray, though not in many scenes, stole the movie for me. I always wondered what all the hullabaloo was about Hepburn. I was left still scratching my head. That's not to say she hasn't given some wonderful performances, because she did receive four Oscars and numerous nominations. But for me, there are so many contemporaries of hers who were so much better than she - Barbara Stanwyck, Bette Davis and Rosalind Russell - just to name a few. For those who love/worship her - I will name three movies I quite enjoyed that she was in: Guess Whos's Coming to Dinner, The Lion in Winter and On Golden Pond. Movies, being art, are subjective - so to each their own.

I don't really care for the films you mentioned outside of The Lion In Winter. I do however love The African Queen, The Rainmaker, Summertime, Little Women, Stage Door, Without Love, Adams Rib, Desk Set, Suddenly Last Summer, Long Days Journey Into Night, Rooster Cogburn, and her version (TV) of The Corn Is Green.
I know that seems like a lot but it is a fraction of her output.

I'm not a fan, either. I find her acting too mannered and her voice grating. I don't think she's attractive. I like some of the movies she was in, but I think they would have been even better with someone else instead of her.
