I found it fascinating to see how the train staff communicated with ground staff while the train was on the move.
Did they really use the methods seen in this film for getting messages on and off a moving train or were they cooked up for the movie?

The use of the ring goes way back before radio. The station agent would receive the message attached and get to the telegraph key or telephone by the time this movie was made.
