The jingoistic patriotism, the paranoia about liberty and freedom being taken away by the government, the fear of liberalism and the equating of progressive ideas with evil, the idea that America must turn and return to God, the attacks on education -- particularly higher education -- and the belief that being informed is analogous with being indoctrinated, fear and loathing of the educated "elite"... where, oh, where have we seen this recently?
